From the Baron and Baroness - December 2008

Greetings Rowanites,

This month sees more glories heaped upon Our Citizens: Thiudareich of the Batavii and Engelin Tiuvel were victorious in the final of the recent November Crown Tournament over Sir Philipe du Lac and Sabine du Bourbonnais, and have been invested as Prince and Princess, with their Coronation to be held at Twelfth Night in Ynys Fawr.

It is pleasing to Us that the skill at arms of our fighters and the inspiration of their consorts is recognised as highly as it deserves.

We recently attended the Feast of St Ursula, and were very well fed and entertained. Our thanks to the steward Lady Ameline, and to her host of assistants, for their excellent efforts. We were very pleased to meet so many newcomers to our society, and hope that they will return to join us again.

There We admitted Lady Lyssa Tryvagsdottir into our Order of the Berries, and Lady Ameline Giffard into the Order of the Golden Staple. We thank them for their ongoing achievements.

Also, we appointed Countess Bethan to the position of Arts & Sciences officer, and Lady Ameline as our Chronicler. We thank the outgoing officers for their service.

Baroness AElfled has just reminded me of my wish to thank those Citizens of Rowany who attended and aided our struggle at Spring War. I feel that we achieved a modest victory over the forces of Their Majesties, and considering that a significant proportion of Their personal guard were also claimed from our ranks, your efforts are all the more to be praised.

This month sees our Yule feast, stewarded by Mistress Keridwen and Sir Corin. We are pleased to be host to Their Majesties Sheridan and Siban.

Please note that Monday Fighter Practice will be cancelled for the 29th of December and there will be no Baronial meeting in January.

We have received advice that the St Peters Town Hall will be closed from New Year and is expected to be closed until at least early March. We are looking into alternative venues with the Seneschal.

Also, Lady Ailis will imminently be moving to Stormhold to continue her studies, and so we ask for expressions of interest in holding the office of Rowany Seneschal.

We would like to wish you all a safe and merry Festive Season.

SPQR,

Gui & AElfled
